Manchester City vs Borussia Dortmund Preview
- Updated: October 3, 2012
When the Champions league draw decided that the two champions of the best leagues in the world, will play then it is clear that we will watch a real derby match. When we add that this is the strongest group of this season’s Champions League, we should definitely expect a spectacle.
Manchester City in the first round has lost almost won a match in Madrid, while Borussia quite difficulty has overcome Ajax.
Neither in the new championship season where both of them are defending champion titles, definitely they do not excel. Manchester City currently is the fourth placed team with the same number of points behind the leader, while Borussia is the third, but with six points behind the leader, the Bavarian Bayern Munich.
Both teams have won in the weekend matches, but so far they have not played against each other.
It seems that Manchester City can’t catch the rhythm in which they played most of the last season, which actually brought them the title of champion of England. True, still they are not defeated in the championship, but they draws a lot, and it’s important to say that Aston Villa has already knocked them from the competition in the Capital One Cup.
Three wins and three draws they have in six rounds, with the aforementioned elimination by Aston Villa, and the defeat of Real Madrid in the first round of the Champions League, where they twice had a led.
Pretty modest for a team that have even stronger team than in the last season. They even had a series of four consecutive matches without a win, which was interrupted on Saturday, with the visiting victory over Fulham 2-1.
Even in that match they did not play well and have long been at a disadvantage by one goal, until Aguero at the end of the first part has align the score to 1-1. The victory brought the Bosnian striker Edin Dzeko, who only a minute before he scored has came into play. Dzeko has an excellent average of goals which he scored, considering he is playing much more as a reserve.
He scored in Madrid as well, so now he could be the starter instead of Tevez. Coach Mancini after the draw against Arsenal has changed Lescott by Nastasić while instead of Sinclair,Barry has played in the defensive midfield.Midfielder Nasri is recovered, but he will probably start on the bench against Borussia.
Borussia Dortmund also have problems, but only playing as guests. On home ground this team is convincing and plays like the previous two seasons when they won the Bundesliga.
In the three matches they achieved three wins and scored ten goals, which means more than three on average, and here we must add 1-0 victory against Ajax in the first round of the Champions League.
Only Werder Bremen in the first round managed to score on the “Signal-Iduna Park”,but guest appearances are something else entirely and Borussia have no victory outside Dortmund, and they had three, we can say good opportunities.
In Hamburg they lost, earlier in Nuremberg they drew, but most certainly their best chance to win away game was in Frankfurt, where they had 2-0 lead, the match under control, but it ended 3-3. In all guest appearances they conceded goals, a total of seven in the three meetings, and twice even three on one match.
Solid attack could not compensate that and therefore Dortmund is without visiting victories. On Saturday, however, they demonstrated their strength against Monchengladbach and sent them off in Dortmund with 5:0.
In the team has returned midfielder Gundogan who significantly improved the game and as expected the starter was M.Gotze, after coming in off the bench in Frankfurt and brilliant game.
Interestingly, the best scorer of the last season Lewandowski was not in the team, and Dortmund celebrated with the most convincing victory. However,Lewandowski should start match against Manchester United, in which Coach Klopp to field will sent currently the strongest lineup.
Man City probable lineup 4-2-3-1 : Hart;Zabaleta, Kompany, Nastasic, Clichy ;Garcia, Barry ;Silva, Yaya Toure, Aguero;Tevez
Borussia Dortmund probable lineup 4-2-3-1 : Weidenfeller;Piszczek, Subotic, Hummels, Schmelzer;Kehl, Gundogan;Blaszczykowski, Gotze, Reus;Lewandowski
Match Prediction :Considering that both teams have problems in the last line, and attacks of both teams work really well,we could see a lot of goals.Over 2,5 goal.s
