Olympiacos have prepared a big surprise in the first round of the Champions League. At Stadio Georgios Karaiskáki, Pireás (Piraeus, which was filled fully, the Greek side defeat the current Champions league vice-champions Atletico Madrid 3:2.

La liga reigning champions had a ball-possession of 60 percent, had a total of 20 shots on Olympiacos’s goal , but went home empty-handed. The Greeks played exactly as they should have, they left the initiative to Atletico, defended nicely, and from a counter-attacks were deadly. From three shots on Atletico’s goal they scored three goals!

First in the 17th minute Arthur Masuaku scores a game opener. Atletico switched to gear up and put even more pressure on th Greeks, but in the 31st minute Afellay lifts the score to 2-0. In those moments, was a real ‘madness’ in Piraeus at the stands, which calmed a little the Croatian Mario Mandzukic with a header for 2-1. Arda Turan and Griezmann tried with many shots to find equilazer but they failed. On the other side, with Atletico’s pulling up a pressure, Olympiacos scores again. The “recipe” was the same – counter attack. A cross from the right flank into the 5-meters box Mitrouglu calms down , rounds Miranda and scored for 3-1. Before the end the French Griezmann finally managed to score but it was to late for something more. Olympiacos 3, Atletico Madrid 2.
