Former Barcelona goalkeeper Victor Valdes on Wednesday signed a contract with Manchester United, for a year and a half.

After 10 months without any playing minutes on the pitch Valdes (32) due to knee injury Valdes found a club in which he will spend the next 18 months. Manchester United confirmed the news via their official website, adding that after a season and a half Valdes has the option of extending the contract for another year.

With Valdes’ arrival it’s expected that the reserve goalkeeper Anders Lindegaard leaves the club.

The 32-year-old Valdes won six La Liga titles and three Champions League trophies.

For Man United’s official website, he said: “It is a real honour to sign for Manchester United. I would like to thank Louis van Gaal and the club for allowing me to do my rehabilitation and to train with the team at the Aon Training Complex. From my short time here I can already see this is a very special club. I worked with Louis van Gaal during my time at FC Barcelona and to have the opportunity to work with him here at Manchester United is a dream come true.”

While for MUTV Valdes said : “I think now, in the moment, he is the best goalkeeper in the world. His performance every day and in every game shows everybody that his level is very high. He has had a great year and it is very nice. Now I think he is the best goalkeeper in the world.”
