The Gunners captain Thomas Vermaelen,28, has agreed a deal in principle to join another Premier league club, Louis van Gaal’s Manchester United this summer.

Arsenal is preparing a new contract for Thomas Vermaelen, who joined the London side from the Dutch club Ajax, 5 years ago, but the player who has one year remaining of his current contract with Arsenal decided it’s time to leave the Emirates Stadium. Arsenal defender last season was pushed from the first team, as Arsène Wenger’s first-choices were Laurent Koscielny and Per Mertesacker, and both of them have signed new long-term contracts with Arsenal in the last few months.

After losing another defender to Manchester City, Bacary Sagna, this will be another big blow for the Gunners title campaign next season, while the new Man Utd coach Louis van Gaal sees Vermaelen as the perfect replacement for the Serbian defender, Nemanja Vidic who left Man Utd and joined the Italian side, FC Internazionale, reported the English Telegraph. Since Manchester United and Vermaelen have agreed a deal in principle it’s left for the clubs to negotiate a fee.
