Manchester United was close to completing the transfer of Borussia Dortmund’s midfield star, but according to the last information’s and to Sport Bild and Marca, Barca again joined the race and could sign the player already next week.
The 24-year-old Ilkay Gundogan is tied with a contract at Dortmund until 2016, but he wants to leave Dortmund before that. Bayern Munich wanted to sign Gundogan in 2016 for free, and recently United have already agreed terms with him in an attempt to strengthen their midfield options ahead of next season, but the Catalans have joined again the race for Ilkay Gundogan and he’s representatives will meet representatives of Barcelona to discuss a possible move to the Catalan club.
Even though Gündogan himself has stated on Facebook that he was not planning to leave Borussia Dortmund, Germans media claim that he won’t accept an extension of his contract at Borussia and that he’s on the move.
If Barca manage to finish and to sign Gundogan he wont be able to play for Luis Enrique’s side until January 2016 due to a transfer ban by FIFA.
