Huge news comes from Spain as newspapers report that Rafael Benitez has been sacked last night after the match against Valencia in Los Blancos failed to win, finishing the game with 10 men on the pitch and the final 2-2 score. It’s expected that a announcment will be made from Florentino Perez at 5.30pm Spanish time.

Update: The news that we’ve brought on Monday afternoon, became official. Due to poor recent results, Benitez has been relieved of his duties at the Santiago Bernabeu, and the Los Blancos have appointed the French legend, Zinedine Zidane who until this point managed Madrid’s ‘B’ team, as their new boss.

Real Madrid president Florentino Perez said to the press:

“I am here to say that the board has just decided, in a difficult decision, especially for me, to end the contract of Rafa as first-team coach.

“I would like to make it clear that he is a great professional.

“Zinedine Zidane knows better than anyone what it is like to stand at the front and lead Real Madrid. Throughout his career he has always been able to face up to huge challenges.

“He is one of the greatest players of all time. Zinedine, this is your club, your stadium and you have all our support. Zidane you are, from this moment, the trainer of Real Madrid.”

New Real Madrid boss, Zidane on his new job:

“Today is a very exciting day for me, even more so than when I signed as a player. I am going to give all my heart for this club.”

“We have the best team and the best supporters in the world. I will do everything possible to win something this season,” he told reporters.

As the former Liverpool manager is sacked, the French legend Zinedine Zidane is expected to take control of Real Madrid until the end of the season. This would be a real challenge for the 43 years old as He have been managing Real Madrid Castilla since 2014. Castilla is currently second on Segunda Division B – which is the Spanish second tier.

Rafael Benitez has been on verge of being sacked since the devastating loss 4-0 against Barcelona at Santiago Bernabeu or after the 1-0 loss against Villareal. The Spanish manager has failed to gain Madridista praises despite the fact that his team scored 10 goals vs Rayo Vallecano. The Los Blancos currently sit on the third, having just one point more than the fourth placed Villarreal, and two less than Barcelona (one game less played). Real Madrid city rivals, Atletico Madrid is currently the first placed team with 41 point.

“Rafa Benitez is no longer coach of Real Madrid, Florentino Perez fired him. The club has not yet officially confirmed this news. It will do something later. His replacement will be Zinedine Zidane”, reported Marca saying that recent poor results were the trigger.

Another potential name to replace Benitez would be who else than the Special One Jose Mourinho, but it remains to be seen, whether Perez will opt to hire again Mourinho, who was sacked by Chelsea this season following their poor performances in Premier League. Anyway, Zizou remains favourite to take care of the team at least until the end of the season, and then The Special One could return to Santiago Bernabeu where he won La Liga, Copa del Rey and the Spanish Supercup.
