MANCHESTER UNITED are poised to test Tottenham’s resolve with a £30million January move for Luka Modric.

United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has targeted Croatian play-maker Modric as he mounts a challenge to leaders Manchester City.
Chelsea tried and failed to land Modric in the summer with a series of offers that rose to about £40m – but Spurs chairman Daniel Levy refused to sell.

“You can never say never in football, of course, because fortunes can fluctuate wildly – that’s the football world. If a really top-class player became available, then we would go for him, or if we picked up any further serious injuries it might be important to add to our squad.”
