Steven Gerrard could be given the opportunity to play alongside Real Madrid legend Raul for the New York Cosmos.
After his decision to leave Liverpool at the end of the season, Gerrard has been in talks with clubs from the MLS, after he announced he would be playing in the US next season.
Gerrard is set to move to LA Galaxy in a deal worth £6 million, with a basic wage of £4 million per year. This deal is set to be confirmed in the coming days, but there has been recent interest shown from New York Cosmos, a side currently playing in the North American Soccer League. Former Real Madrid and Schalke player, Raul, has recently signed for the New York side, and the club are hoping to build the team.
Club coach, Giovanni Savarese said, ‘If Steven Gerrard is interested in playing for the New York Cosmos, then we would definitely be interested in a player of his calibre.’
‘I have to stress that we have not held discussions or negotiations with Steven, but he is a winner, the type of player who gives everything and chases every ball and you never know what can happen.’
‘The signing of Raul was a crucial step for us as a club, and he is somebody who will help New York Cosmos at every level, from youth development through to the first team.’
‘But we are not going to stop with Raul and we will continue to try to add to the players we have here.’
Gerrard is unlikely to be tempted by a move to the side, as a move to the MLS looks favourable for the former England captain.
