Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal admitted that a loss to local rivals Manchester City on Sunday (20 March) in the English Premier League would end the club’s ambition of finishing in the top four.

Louis van Gaal, Manchester United manager:
(asked if losing to Manchester City would mean the end of United’s chances to finish in the top four):
“I think so. We are now four points behind I think. So you have to win otherwise the gap is bigger and bigger and the matches that you have to play are not so big.”
Journalist: “So the gap would be too big if you lost on Sunday?”
Van Gaal: “Yes, I think then it is seven points and we have to play then eight matches maybe. It’s very sharp to recover from that gap.”
