Steven Gerrard’s performance with England at the World Cup disappointed the Argentina legend , Diego Armando Maradona. Maradona believes that the England Captain could have done better , specially vs Uruguay.

Diego Maradona criticises Gerrard performance in World Cup. He believes that the England captain should have performed way better vs Uruguay at Sao Paolo stadium.

The Liverpool captain is named as the flop of the game. Gerrard is blamed for his mistakes at both Suarez goals, specially at the second one.

Maradona admits that Gerrard should be held responsible for both defeats.

“For England, who dominated the second half but were let down by the final pass or the final touch, it was the same old story of what could have been,” admits Maradona.

“Gerrard and the English defence must take the blame for both Uruguay goals. When [Nicolas] Lodeiro started his run before the first, Gerrard could have done better.

“It was Gerrard again who made a mess of a long shot from the Uruguayan goalkeeper after England had equalised. The ball went to Suarez, who once again found a lot of room in the penalty area before unleashing a ferocious shot.

“You can’t afford [to do] that with a striker of his class and England paid the price.”

England will face Costa Rica on 24 June at Estádio Mineirão, Belo Horizonte.
