Ahead of Liverpool’s FA Cup return leg at home against Exeter City on Wednesday (20th January), manager Jurgen Klopp ruminates on the Reds’ striking deficiencies and young footballers chasing the money.
“How can I say? To get the highest wages in your life in the first year of your career – it’s more important to get the real education. I like Jerome [Sinclair] to be honest, he’s a real talent and if he wants to stay with us, no problem, absolutely no problem. If not – we cannot force it.
“We have the situation that from I would say, five strikers, two are left and I think in the beginning of the season Roberto Firmino was not, I don’t know, maybe was not planned as a striker, but because of our situation we thought about it; because of his skills we did it. So, for creating chances it is a really good formation. The players know about it. So, it’s sometimes to be a little bit more greedy in the right moment.
“Simon Mignolet for us: perfect. Because he is a smart guy, young enough to develop in the things he has to develop and he gives us all, the whole team, a feeling, a good feeling when he is in the starting line-up and so that’s really important.”
