Manchester United head coach Louis van Gaal said Arsenal “are at another level” ahead of the two teams meeting in the English Premier League on Sunday.

(On playing Arsenal after defeating FC Midtjylland 5-1)
“I have a lot of performances that I was also pleased. The media are rating Midtjylland as not the most exciting opponent. I have on the other hand the other opinion. I have analysed Midtjylland and I say that is not so easy. They have a very organised defence and nevertheless we have scored five goals and created 15 chances. So we played a fantastic game, but we have to do it against Arsenal. In my opinion Arsenal is at another level.”

(On the team’s injury crisis)
“Manchester United wants to give youngsters also the chance. It’s also in the culture of Manchester United. So we are doing that, but we have a lot of (bad) luck this year because it is not normal you have 14 injured players. Nevertheless we are in three competitions. We have a lot to fight for and we are in the quarterfinals of the FA Cup and we are now in the next round of the Europa League, we are fifth in the Premier League so it’s not so bad as some media are writing or telling to the fans.”

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger spoke on Friday (26 February) ahead of his team’s Premier League game against Manchester United.

(if playing at Old Trafford is still a special fixture?)

“Of course. Manchester United are a big club. Old Trafford is a special place and I believe that for every club it remains a special fixture.”

(on being favourites going to Old Trafford for the first time ever)

“Favourites for me is not a special meaning. Favourites is opinion. Results are down to performance and reality, so that’s what you want to focus on, on your performance of your team. To turn up on the day as favourites is good talk, but results are made by performances.”

(on the FIFA presidential election)

“Honestly I think UEFA has presented a good candidate with Gianni Infantino. I do not know all the other candidates, nor do I know any programme of anybody because that has been very vague. Honestly I don’t believe that the next election at FIFA will change a lot. I think they need deeper changes. Let’s see when somebody is elected if they turn up with a programme that presents deep changes. They have to restore credibility of our organisation.”
