Luis Enrique returns home to face an old friend when Barcelona play at Sporting Gijon in a postponed game – Enrique will be going up against Sporting Gijon coach Abelardo Fernandez, a former team-mate and a friend from the time they were children.

Luis Enrique Martinez, FC Barcelona coach:
“At last we recover the matchday we had lost because of the Clubs’ World Cup. As we can see the tournament is very much even and disputed. This game gives us the chance to distance ourselves from our direct rivals. It means a lot for our position in the table.”

“It has been many years since I left Gijon. I consider myself a Gijon citizen 1,000 per cent. But nowadays I am the coach of FC Barcelona and preparing for this next game isn’t difficult for me. Even though the stadium means a lot to me, the objective remains the same. All of my family live there and it is my hometown. But as a professional and coach my obligation is going there to win three vital points.”

“(about the possible end of the club record 30-game unbeaten run) I hope we won’t lose there. But if it has to be at a certain place then let it be at (Sporting’s) Molinon stadium. But I hope it won’t happen. I would like to extend the record another hundred games.”
