Sam Allardyce spoke on Thursday (28th January) about Sunderland’s upcoming English Premier League game against Manchester City.
(on dealing with Sergio Aguero):
“I think we’ve got to be capable of trying to smother and stifle one of the best strikers in the world. That’s our first priority and I think our attention needs to be paid to the fact he’s the big difference between what Man City have been doing in terms of results, he seems to be the man who turns the game in their favour on a regular basis. If we can stop that goal threat that he has, that would be by the service and when he does receive the ball there’s probably two or three men around him to try to stop him producing his goal scoring ability, which at this moment in time is outstanding. Then can we stay in the game and can we keep it tight and be patient and take an opportunity when it arises for us on the basis that maybe the amount of games they’re playing, there may be some fatigue that comes into the game later on and we may get a better opportunity to try to expose some of their weaknesses and see if we can score a goal.”
