Wolfsburg head coach Dieter Hecking spoke on Monday (7th March) after the team continued their preparations ahead of Tuesday’s (8th March) UEFA Champions League Round of 16 second leg at home to Gent.

Script: “Yes, I have already said before the first leg that we will definitely need two good days in order to reach the quarter finals. I think, we had our first good day in Gent with our 3-2 win and tomorrow we will need another good day in order to reach the quarter finals. The initial situation is good with this result. And I do also think that my team due to the recent results in the league is even more confident than two or three weeks ago. But we do also know that the game is not already decided. I think I can assess the quality of Gent quite well and tomorrow they will run and play for their chance.”

“Tomorrow is a new task for us. The situation has changed a bit compared to the time before the first leg. A: due to the result. B: due to our results in our last games played in general. We have also had some changes in the team. So, the premises are a bit different. The opponent has some player problems at the moment. So, we must wait and see if they will play with three players in defence or with four players in the defence. And high spirits? I think it can happen that my team performs with high spirits, that is right. And if this will be the case tomorrow, then it can also be positive.”
