Barcelona star Lionel Messi has won the award for best player and striker in the Spanish championship, Liga BBVA thanks to the votes of Association of Spanish professional clubs.
After the Argentine yesterday was included in the top three candidates for the prestigious Ballon d’Or award, on Monday evening he received the award for the best player and attacker of Primera last season. Messi so left behind Cristiano Ronaldo who didn’t even come to the ceremony.
Messi last season scored 43 goals in total and he led Barcelona to three titles – the Champions League, La Liga and Spanish Cup.
“I am proud to receive this award in front of so many important players in the championship,” said Messi, adding:
“I dedicate the award to his son Thiago, although he still does not understand all the best. Every time I leave the house he was angry and asked me: Dad, are you coming back to score goals. This award is for him. ”
“I am happy and thankful for these awards and recognitions. I think that after all we’ve done and won last season we deserved these awards and perhaps even more. But we are thankful for these awards tonight.”
Lionel Messi, FC Barcelona forward
“(about Ballon d’Or awards) I am happy for once again having been selected among the three finalists. I also would have like to share the event with Luis (Suarez) because he also deserved to be there following his great performance during last season. But we must also accept the fact that Cristiano (Ronaldo) is a true deserver of the nomination. So we will go to enjoy the moment like we did every time we went there.”
“We want to keep going the way we are now. We want to keep achieving things. Soon we have the Clubs World Cup, another very important tournament for us. And we want to win that one too.”
Neymar Jr., FC Barcelona forward
“I think it is fair that we won more awards. All nominees did a good work to deserve it. But I think Barsa can achieve even more. I trust in my team. And I am very happy for the team and Leo (Messi).”
