Brendan Rodgers’ men welcome Gus Poyet’s Sunderland looking to close gap at Premier League summit with a home win. If the Reds manage to achieve this, they will go only one point behind the leading team, Chelsea FC.

The most goal scoring team with 82 goals in 30 so far this season currently lies on the third place with 65 points on their account, having 4 points less than the Premier league toppers. Manchester City with Tuesday’s 3-0 win in city derby, have 66 points but also two match less than the leading team, Chelsea FC, and one game less than Liverpool. Meanwhile Arsenal with a drop of 6 points from the last two games, slowly are dropping off from the title race.

To avoid the same situation, Rodger’s men will have to win , especially the home games. With their amazing strike duo Suarez-Sturridge, which are the main reason for the Reds’ high place this season, this probably wont be a hard task. Rodgers’ side coming into this game with 6 wins in a row. The last three from 6 were on tour, where the Reds defeated with 3 goals difference Southampton (0-3), Manchester United (0-3) and Cardiff City (3-6).

Team morale is high, and the hat-trick Luis Suarez scored on the last game, only tell us in what form currently he is, and that we could expect some goals from Liverpool star player in this game also. Suarez currently has scored 28 goals from 25 games while his attacking partner, Sturridge has scored 19 goals.

Brendan Rodgers and his player are looking forward to this game and for the club’s official website he said :

“We’re really looking forward to playing at Anfield now on Wednesday night.”

“Hopefully the supporters can really get behind the team well before kick-off, get the atmosphere revved up for the game and we’ll look to continue on this great run. As you can see, we believe we can perform well and get results.”

Except for defending duo Sebastian Coates and Jose Enrique (both knee) , Brendan Rodgers doesn’t have any other problems regarding the players injuries.

Gus Poyet’s men have lost the last five games, three in Premier league, one in the Capital One Cup and one in the FA Cup. The Black Cats are on the 18th place, and they need to start winning games to avoid relegation battle. The good news for them , is that they have 3 points less than the 17th Crystal Palace but also two games less.

With a good approach to remaining 10 games, the Black Cats will have a good chance to avoid the relegation from the English Elite competition. On Saturday, they lost away game to Norwich City, and the same scenario Poyet is hoping to not to repeat.

To do so they need break a long history of not beating Liverpool at Anfield from the season 1983-84 when the Reds have won the league title. For this game Poyer can’t count on GK Keiren Westwood (shoulder injury) and could be without Steven Fletcher (ankle).
