La Liga side Real Madrid were keen to give little away as they took part in a training session in Spain on Tuesday – ahead of the first leg of their UEFA Champions League round of 16 match against English Premier League champions-elect Manchester United.

Real are 33 matches undefeated on home soil since they were beaten by Barcelona in 2012 and in four meetings with United the worst they have done is draw.

United are now within touching distance of a record 20th league title and their record of three Champions League finals in the last five seasons far exceeds Real’s record over the same period, which includes just two semi-final appearances.

The two famous old names of European football have met four times previously in the competition – with the winners going on to lift the trophy on three occasions.

Cristiano Ronaldo will face his old side for the first time since his departure from Old Trafford – the Portuguese fresh from scoring a hat trick against Sevilla last weekend.
