Real Madrid have been thrown out of Spain’s domestic cup competition, Copa del Rey for playing with the ineligible Denis Cheryshev against Cadiz earlier this week.

The news that emerged soon after the final whistle earlier this week, in a 3-1 win of the Los Blancos against Cadiz now has been and officially confirmed – Real Madrid got expelled from Copa del Rey.

In the first match of the quarter-finals of the Copa del Rey in Cadiz Real won with 3: 1, but Benitez to the pitch has sent Denis Cheryshev who from his time playing Villarreal last season had accumulation of yellow cards, meaning he ineligible to play.

Cadiz filed a complaint asking for the rules to be respected and the game this Friday was registered in his favor, meaning that Real Madrid got expelled from the competition or in other words Cadiz automatically reached the next stage of the competition.

Real Madrid’s president, Perez then complained emphasizing that Denis Cheryshev was not directly informed of the suspension, but the President of Commission Franciso Rubio dismissed an appeal by Madrid explaining that the same was unfounded.

“The penalty Cheryshev was given while playing for Villarreal is ineffective in our view, no one had mentioned the sanction to the player’” the Madrid president said.

“As Article 41 of the RFEF’s disciplinary code states, the punishment is not effective unless it notifies those to be punished.

“Real Madrid did not know of its existence, no one reported it – neither the player nor Villarreal nor the RFEF.”

Los Blancos can now appeal to a higher authority, and that is the International Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS). Real president Florentino Perez has announced that it will use all possible legal remedies. Real yesterday sent to the headquarters of CAS two attorneys to review the documentation and try to save the day, but apparently they did not succeed.

Real Madrid’s situation is not the best one. While the Los Blancos have sealed their ticket for the Champions league knockout stage, in La Liga after heavy home El Clasico defeat, Barca made a gap of six points and even another team from Madrid, Diego Simeone’s Atletico surpassed Benitez’s men having two points more than Real Madrid.

With latest rumours of Ronaldo’s possible departure, PSG or Man Utd, it will be interesting to see how the whole situation will be played out at Santiago Bernabeu, and will this situation with another possible bad result Benitez be marked as crucial one, enough, to get Benitez sacked.
