In the first match at the European Championships in Kiev, Ukraine beat Sweden 2-1 and sat on top of Group D,  given the earlier draw of France and England in the afternoon program. Over Zlatan Ibrahimovic Sweden took the lead in the 52nd minute, but Andriy Shevchenko with goals in the 55 and 62 overturned the match and brough three major points for Ukraine.
