English champions Manchester City are stepping up their interest in Aston Villa striker Cristian Benteke, to solve their current injury crisis.

City have had to resort to playing James Milner up front in past weeks, as Sergio Aguero, Edin Dzeko and Stevan Jovetic have all been sidelined with injuries.

Manchester City are set to address this problem by bringing in a new striker for the remainder of the season.

Cristian Benteke has been named alongside Swansea City striker Wilfried Bony as an answer to the clubs unfortunate situation they lie in.

The club are said to be favouring a move for £25m target Bony, but £18m Benteke is also a favourable move for the club.

Reports have suggested that Benteke is not expected to move away from Villa Park this transfer window, but a big offer may tempt the club to sell.
