Atletico Madrid’s official website has confirmed the capture of the Argentine midfielder Augusto Fernandez from Celta Vigo.

The defensive midfielder has costed €6.5m to the Spanish giants , and have signed a contract that will keep him at Vincente Calderon until 2019. Augusto Fernandez re-joins Diego Simenone once again after being together on 2008 with River Plate, when they won the league.

A 29-year-old midfield got a good career on his shoulders, as he started on his homeland with River Plate, where he has been under Diego Simeone management for 1 season. After that he was looking for a European experience and joined St Etienne on summer 2009 but returned to Argentina after having a poor season. After 2 excellent seasons with Velez , where he won the title and was named as Best Player of Argentine league, he joined Celta Vigo for €1.5m. During his time at Celta he has made 122 appearances for the club, also scoring 10 goals and assisting twelve.

On the official club’s website , Atletico Madrid sporting director stated : ” Augusto is a player of proven experience in the League that will bring quality and competition to a great midfield such as ours. His incorporation will help us face the demands of having to play three competitions.”

Diego Simeone has requested the signing of Augusto Fernandez after one of his key players , Thiago was injured on October. Atletico was also interested on signing Ac Milan star, Giacomo Bonaventura but apparently the italian club has refused to sell him. Alongside Augusto , another Argentine star is expected to join Atletico Madrid. Matías Kranevitter, 22 years old has arrived to Spain on Tuesday and is expected to start training soon.
