Manchester City prepared on Tuesday (23 February) for the first leg of their Champions League last 16 match against Dynamo Kiev in Ukraine

Pablo Zabaleta, Manchester City defender:
“Well, we know this is a different competition, it’s one of those competitions where we are trying to make progress. I know we’re coming from a big defeat on Sunday (5-1 to Chelsea in the FA Cup) but obviously we are now 100% focused on the game tomorrow. It will be a different game, different competition so hopefully we can perform well enough to get a good result.”

Manuel Pellegrini, Manchester City manager:
“Unfortunately for us we had to make a difficult decision against Chelsea but it was the only clear decision that we had to do, for this moment. If we had a complete squad, probably a lot of more players would play that game but it was not the case, we had 13 players. So I think that it was our intention to continue in all the competitions, we couldn’t do in that (FA Cup) because we had to take a chance but this is absolutely different, we are now thinking we try to improve as we did the last two years, arriving for the first time in the round of 16. Now we won the group in the group stage and we will try to continue knowing that we have a difficult game tomorrow.”

“Well I think that the problem is trying to play well tomorrow and not thinking about the future because maybe you don’t know if some players will return or if we have other players in different ways. The important thing that the performance of our important players tomorrow, have a good performance to try to … We know that it’s a game of 180 minutes, it’s just the first leg so it’s more important about the performance.”
