Ninety-six Liverpool football fans lost their lives when they went to watch a game on 15th April 1989.

The 96 Liverpool fans who died in the Hillsborough disaster of 1989 were “unlawfully killed” because of errors by the police a inquest has concluded.

Relief , emotion and a sense of closure for the families who have spent more than a quarter-of-a-century campaigning against the original inquest.

The jury, which had been considering 14 questions set out by the coroner, concluded the deaths constituted unlawful killing by a 7-2 majority.

They also found that the behaviour of Liverpool fans did not contribute to the danger unfolding at the turnstiles.

Criminal proceedings will mow likely follow but for the families of the 96, their tireless 27-year fight for justice has been vindicated.
