Ahead of their Last 16 Champions League clash on Tuesday (16th February), PSG midfielder Blaise Matuidi talked about his respect for Chelsea and his pride at what his team has achieved so far.

“Yes, of course, it’s revenge. But, it’s true, it is a big club and we have a huge respect for this team [Chelsea]. They have lots of big players. We know it’s going to be very difficult but we have the weapons to deal with them and to qualify.

“It’s been three or four months that we’ve heard about it [PSG’s record]. We shouldn’t forget what we have been doing since the start of the season. Domestically, we haven’t lost in 44 games, including the league and Cup competitions. That is something exceptional. We shouldn’t forget this and we are aware of it. There are expections. Huge ones, in everyday and in every game, and we have to be present and show the quality of this team and its character. Even in the tough moments, we manage to win and we have to continue in this path. This will also help us get a result in the Champions League.”

“Everything is possible in life and why not? I say it doesn’t depend on me, it also depends on the opportunities. There are moments where you can change. Everything is possible, but why not stay all my career in Paris?”

Chelsea interim coach Guus Hiddink on his team feeling secure, both on and off the pitch on Monday (15th February) ahead of his team’s Champions League round of 16 first leg against PSG in Paris.

“These games must be a big party, of course, with all the rivalry that must exist, but when you go into stadiums nowadays you see many people going together. I have seen many games also in Germany where you see people from different clubs, different colours, different shirts, they go together, they mix, and that’s beautiful to see. I hope we create the same environment in these games. About the security… it’s a pity that it is like that, but I think and I hope that the sport will at the end be there where it is supposed to be.”

“I think everyone knows the situation at Chelsea in the recent months and also weeks. Step by step, we try to establish more security in the team, more a way of playing which we like to play with the quality of players we have. To be honest, we are not yet there, where we would like to be.”
