The Los Blancos in the first round of group B at the Santiago Bernabeu smashed the Swiss side, Basel 5-1. Carlo Ancelotti’s side have opened the new season badly, losing the Super Cup and suffering two La Liga defeats in a row, so a win against Basel was a must do thing to bring good mood into the locker-room and at the stands.
The Los Blancos took the lead thanks to an own goal of Suchy from whom the ball reflected into his own net. In the 31st minute Luka Modric with a brilliant pass finds Gareth Bale who lobs the Goalkeeper for 2-0. Only two minutes later, Cristiano scores his first goal and raises the score to 3-0.
In the 37th minute, James Rodriguez scores for 4-0 while in the next attack Basel hits back one after a counter attack. Gonzalez from the edge of the box strikes to the left-bottom corner past Casillas. In the second half Real Madrid slowed a pace but until the end the Los Blancos managed to score once more. Ronaldo and Benzema did a lovely action and the French striker shots and hits the crossbar from which the ball bounces back into the Basel’s net.
