Norwich manager Alex Neil spoke on Monday (29 February) ahead of his side’s Premier League match at home to Chelsea on Tuesday (1 March).

“When you don’t win as many games as you would like. We’ve come up with the realisation that we’re in the Premier League. It’s a tough league. We’ve got a team capable of winning games at this level. It’s just making sure that they find margins in games that you’re at the right end of and I think we’ve been a bit unfortunate in some of the games.”

lex Neil, Norwich manager: (on picking up points and performances):

“I think every team down there is at that stage now. You look as Sunderland, Bournemouth, Swansea and Crystal Palace – they are still in amongst it. I think everybody recognizes that at this stage of the season, although the performance was good on Saturday (in 1-0 defeat away to Leicester), really it’s about picking up points and whatever it takes to get that is what you want to do. I’m a big believer that good performances pick up wins. If you play well, more often than not you’re going to get the result rather than not performing well. I don’t think that certainly helps.”

On plan to deal with Chelsea:

“I wouldn’t single out any individual. When you look at a team like Chelsea, they’ve obviously got good individuals in every spot across their team. We’ll have a plan of action as we did against Leicester and hopefully we can get our most influential players at the top end of the pitch having an influence on the game in an attacking sense and trying to keep their players quiet at the other end.”

Chelsea interim manager Guus Hiddink spoke to the media on Monday (29th February), but refused to talk about his replacement.

Guus Hiddink, Chelsea interim manager (on loan striker Alexandre Pato):

“He is, I think not ready for 90 (minutes), but he is now coming in in the last days that he is able to play part of the game. But once more I underline that…. we consider also the chances for the young guys.”

Q: “So he might be on the bench (for Tuesday’s trip to Norwich City)?

“We’ll see this afternoon what damages from the injured players.”

SOUNDBITE: (English) Guus Hiddink, Chelsea interim manager: (on the new manager situation)

Q: “Is there any update on news of your potential successor?”

Hiddink: (turns to press officer Steve Atkins) “Steve?”

Atkins: “No!”

Hiddink: “No”

Q: “Are you happy with that situation at the moment, or do you feel that is should be resolved…..”

Hiddink: “I expressed in my previous press conference what my personal view and opinion is. Whenever things are done in the, for the near future, I think one can be, the club, can be, my personal opinion, can be transparent. That’s how there is a clearness for everyone, everyone involved.”
