AS Roma coach Luciano Spalletti is confident his team has a “50 per cent chance” of beating Real Madrid on Wednesday, despite recent UEFA Champions League routs against major teams

“I’m not going to set up ‘cages’ on the pitch, as I have been reading these days. I am not asking three of my players to mark Cristiano Ronaldo, I am not telling them that they are worth one third of Cristiano Ronaldo, because if that would be true I would need 33 players to play against Real Madrid, because all of them are important players. So I will tell to whoever will play in Ronaldo’s area that he has a chance to be playing at Ronaldo’s level.”

“This is more or less the same team that won the Champions League with (Carlo) Ancelotti, very few players were changed. So everybody has to give everything and be available for everything needed. Then of course a coach has to make difficult choices, but it is to put the eleven best to make the best of that 50 per cent chance we have of winning tomorrow (Wednesday).”

“What we have to do is the same we have been doing recently, start quickly and strongly in the matches. We know tomorrow it is going to be difficult, we play away and the Champions League is a different kind of competition. Roma is a good team and they know how to play, and playing away is always difficult. But I’m confident since we are coming from a good week and we’re ready for this match.”
