Argentine midfielder/defener Javier Mascherano has reportedly pleaded guilty to tax evasion (over €1.5 million), AS reports.

Barcelona’s Javier Mascherano on Thursday appeared before a judge. “He admitted the fact, two counts of tax fraud ,” said a court source.

The Prosecutor’s Office of Barcelona has launched proceedings against Mascherano accusing him of tax evasion from his revenue earned from the sale of his character in 2011 and 2012 by two companies based in Madeira and the United States.

Mascherano on 9 September has paid the amount of EUR 1.75 million, which corresponds to the amount of concealing income and interest, according to information from the prosecutor’s office.

Since the Argentine footballer has pleaded guilty, the procedure will be short and will probably avoid a trial.
